The author of the international hit memoir 'Here Is Real Magic' is coming to the UK to present a very special workshop on Sunday 13th October 2019...
Perhaps best-known for Breaking Magic on The Discovery Channel, his lottery prediction illusion and the recently published Clouds and Kingdoms, Nate Staniforth has been blowing the minds of audiences and magicians for the past 10 years. Take a look at some of his YouTube videos (the lottery prediction has more than 1 million views!) and you'll see why.
Derren Brown says “Nate is one of my favourite magicians in the world.”
Nate and I have been talking for some time and we both believe that there's a growing awareness that the next great breakthrough in magic will come from an elevated standard among its practitioners - a wider appreciation of magic as a more intellectual art form and Nate sees this workshop as being a part of that.
"Over the last 15 years of touring my show, I’ve thoroughly explored the enormous gulf between performances that feel like the demonstration of tricks and those moments that feel like actual magic. Call it whatever you like—wonder, awe, astonishment—every magician knows that moment where the stars align, the magic happens, and the spectators run screaming from the room. I love that. Over the past 2,500 performances in the U.S. I’ve made a careful (read ‘obsessive’ and ‘systematic’) study of the specific tactics and strategies that allow magicians to present a trick in such a way that it feels like a genuine moment of magic.
It’s curious—to me this feels like the most essential part of a magician’s work yet I don't see it getting a lot of discussion.
So for this workshop, I’d like to take a whole day to explore some of the tools and creative models I’ve been using to create and perform magic for the public. We’re going to unpack a few original pieces from my own show so these ideas can be seen in a practical context, and ideally each participant will come ready to discuss a piece from their own work, too. There will be a small reading list that we'll issue ahead of time just to make sure that some of the preliminary aims and priorities are covered and we're all on the same page, allowing us to make the most of our time together on the day.
More than anything, I want this to be an eminently useful day for everyone.
I assume that the modern magician can find tricks, inspiration, business advice, and career counselling elsewhere. My aim with this workshop is to give everyone a set of specific tools and strategies for amplifying the impact of a routine towards the experience of wonder and magic rather than skillful deception or trickery.
Plus, there's pizza for lunch."
Places are strictly limited.
It'll be here on my farm, just 18 minutes from Peterborough train station, in the comfortable and peaceful surroundings of our purpose-built training barn. We'll begin at 10am and run through to 4.30pm with an open Q&A session at the end.
The price includes unlimited refreshments throughout the day, organic pizza lunch cooked in our outdoor, wood-fired pizza oven and resources.
We'll send full details, including the reading list, directions and everything you need to know to prepare for the workshop by email after booking.
It’s a full day from 10am until 4.30pm on Sunday 13th October 2019.
